Third Grade Scientists Dissect Owl Pellets - Date Posted: 10/29/2011 |
|
|
Park Avenue"s third grade classes studied the feeding habits of owls and learned that these forest birds eat several kinds of small mammals. Owls regurgitate pellets which contain fur, feathers, and bones which cannot be digested. Using toothpicks and diagrams the students dissected the pellets and arranged bones such as skulls, teeth, and ribs to "rebuild" the mice, voles, and shrews. Third grade science is definitely a hoot!
