Building Strong Writers: A Journey of Creativity and Expression

At North Bellmore, we are committed to fostering confident, creative, and independent writers. Our writing curriculum is enriched by both district-created units of study and units from Schoolwide Writing Fundamentals. These thoughtfully designed units provide students with opportunities to explore narrative, informational, and opinion/argument writing, helping them develop the skills needed for lifelong literacy.

Mentor texts play a key role in our approach, serving as powerful examples of strong writing for students to analyze and emulate. These texts inspire students to reflect on their writing and guide them in creating their own work. Each unit of study begins with teacher-led mini-lessons, focused on these mentor texts, and culminates in a writing celebration where students proudly share their published pieces.

Our workshop model emphasizes personalized writing instruction through whole-class lessons, small-group sessions, and one-on-one conferences, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

At North Bellmore, we believe in a nurturing and dynamic writing process that values student choice, promotes engagement, and celebrates the joy of becoming an author.
