Building Global Thinkers: Exploring History, Geography, Economics and Citizenship
At North Bellmore, we believe in empowering students to become social scientists who seek to understand the world around them and share their knowledge with others. Our social studies curriculum encourages curiosity and critical thinking as students explore key concepts in history, geography, economics, and civics. Instruction is carefully aligned with the five content area standards as outlined in the New York State Social Studies Framework, ensuring that all students receive a comprehensive and rigorous social studies education.
In addition to content knowledge, we focus on developing students’ skills through the social studies practices outlined in the framework. These practices help students analyze historical events, interpret maps and data, engage in informed discussions, and make connections to the world around them.
To support this learning, we utilize MyWorld Interactive by Savvas Learning for grades K-5, a dynamic resource that brings social studies to life through interactive activities, engaging visuals, and thought-provoking content. For Grade 6, we utilize Networks: Discovering Our Past: The Eastern Hemisphere by McGraw Hill, which provides an in-depth exploration of the history, culture, and geography of the Eastern Hemisphere.
Through these resources and our comprehensive approach, we aim to inspire students to think critically about the world, understand diverse perspectives, and become active, informed citizens.
