Peace, Kindness, and Community: A September 11 Reflection

Posted Date: 09/11/26 (08:30 AM)

Dear North Bellmore Community,

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost and honor the courage and bravery shown on that day. We also hold in our hearts the families and loved ones who continue to carry that loss, remembering them with deep respect and compassion.

In our elementary schools, our age-appropriate focus will be on peace and the values that help bring communities together. Over the next several weeks, our art teachers will art will support our learners in exploring and expressing what peace, kindness, compassion, courage, hope, unity, and leadership mean to them.  These are values that are at the heart of our district mission and core values.

As part of this experience, students will create “Peace Bricks,” sharing through art what these values mean to them. Together, these individual expressions will become displays in our schools, creating a visual reminder that each of us has a role in shaping the community around us.

We build peace.
We build kindness.
We build community.

As we remember, may we continue to find strength in one another and carry forward a commitment to kindness, hope, and peace.

With warmest regards,

Marie Testa, Superintendent
